Keeping Gutters Clear

Clogs are the number one gutter problem we see. Plan on clearing your gutters twice a year, and think about guards if that job keeps coming around too fast.

Gutter Repair

Not every gutter problem means new gutters all the way around. When one run is the trouble, we replace that run and leave the rest alone.

Tackling Gutter Overflow

Most overflowing gutters have the same cause: they're full. Here is how to deal with it.

  • Clear them. Twice a year is the rule, once in late spring and once after the leaves are down.
  • Add gutter guards. Guards cut down the cleaning. They don't end it.
  • Replace them. New seamless K-style gutters, in 5-inch or 6-inch.

The Work

We do the job on its own, or along with your roof replacement if you're bundling the two.

Seamless Gutter Installation in Cincinnati, OH

A seamless gutter is made to measure. Each run is formed from a single length of metal, so the only joints are at the corners and the downspout outlets.

K-Style, in Two Sizes

K-style is the gutter profile on most homes built in the last several decades, with a flat back and a shaped front. We install it in 5-inch and 6-inch widths.

When 6-Inch Is Worth It

Bigger and steeper roofs send more water to the edge, faster. A 6-inch gutter carries more of it, which helps under long roof planes and below valleys where two slopes drain to one spot.

What We Don't Install

Half-round gutters and box gutters. If your home has either, we're not the right gutter company for that job, and we'd rather tell you now.

Gutter Repair in Cincinnati: Fix It or Replace It?

Plenty of people who search for gutter repair in Cincinnati have gutters that are simply full. So that is the first thing we check.

How We Repair a Gutter

For the most part, the way to repair a gutter is to replace the piece that failed. If one run has pulled loose, creased or started to leak, we take that run down and hang a new seamless one in its place. The gutters on the other sides of the house stay where they are.

Problems That Point to Gutter Replacement

Damage on more than one side of the house, gutters that are bent or creased along their length, and gutters hung on fascia that has gone soft. At that point, new gutters all the way around are the better buy.

The Honest Version

We'll show you photos and tell you whether one new section will do or the whole house needs gutters. You get the price and the reason either way.

Gutter Guards in Cincinnati: What to Expect

Gutter guard installation is one of the most common requests we get, and it's easy to see why. Roughly nine out of ten of the clogged-gutter calls we get are from homes without guards. We install Shur Flo and Leaf Relief guards.

A guard sits over the gutter and keeps out the leaves and twigs that cause most clogs. Water still gets in. Large debris doesn't.

Here's the part gutter guard companies tend to skip: guards reduce maintenance, they don't remove it. Small debris still builds up over time, so even guarded gutters should be checked now and then.

Gutters and Downspouts Work as One System

It helps to think of gutter systems the way we think of roofs: as parts that only work together.

The drip edge at the roofline hands water to the gutter. The gutter's slope carries it to an outlet. The downspout takes it to the ground and lets it go somewhere it can't hurt the house. If any one of those is wrong, the water ends up on the fascia, the siding or the foundation.

That's why a roofing company makes a sensible gutter contractor. We already work at the roof edge every day, and we repair the wood there too. If the board behind your gutters is soft, see soffit repair in Cincinnati.

Gutter Installation Across Greater Cincinnati

We install and replace gutters from both of our offices. On the east side that includes Anderson Township, Milford, Indian Hill and Maineville.

Further north we cover Montgomery, Reading, Springdale and Evendale from our Blue Ash office. There's a separate page for gutter installation in Blue Ash.

Signs Your Gutters Need Attention

Most of these can be seen from the driveway during a good rain.

  • Water spilling over the front. Usually a clog. Sometimes a gutter too small for the roof above it.
  • Water running behind the gutter. Often a missing drip edge, or a gutter hung too low.
  • A gutter that holds water after the rain stops. The slope has shifted, so it no longer drains to the downspout.
  • Plants growing in it. It hasn't been cleaned in a long while.
  • Paint peeling on the board behind. The fascia is getting wet, and that needs dealing with before it rots.
  • A downspout that gushes at a joint. Something is stuck further down.

Comparing Gutter Companies in Cincinnati

There are plenty of gutter companies in Cincinnati, Ohio, and most will give you a price per foot over the phone. A price is only useful if you know what it covers.

Ask whether the gutters are seamless and what size they are. Ask how many downspouts are included and where they'll go. Ask what happens if the fascia turns out to be rotted once the old gutter is off. And ask whether the quote includes taking the old gutters away.

We answer all four in writing. Because we're a roofing company, we also look at the shingles and drip edge above the gutter, since a new gutter under a failing roof edge won't fix the problem.

Frequently Asked Questions About Gutter Services

What are seamless gutters?

Each run of gutter is one continuous piece, so there are no joints along its length. We install seamless K-style gutters in 5-inch and 6-inch sizes.

Do gutter guards eliminate the need for cleaning?

No. Guards cut it down a lot, and most of the clogged gutters we see are on homes without them, but even gutters with guards need a look now and then.

How often should gutters be cleaned?

Twice a year: once in late spring, and again in fall after the leaves are down. Homes under heavy tree cover may need it more often, and homes with gutter guards need it less.

Can you install gutters on any home style?

We install 5-inch and 6-inch seamless K-style gutters. We don't install half-round gutters or box gutters.

Is there a discount if I'm also replacing my roof?

Yes. Gutters are 25% off when you bundle them with a roof replacement.

Do you repair gutters, or only install new ones?

We'll look at any gutter problem. In most cases the repair is a new section: we replace the run that failed and leave the rest. If the whole house needs new gutters, we'll explain why.

Do you install gutter guards on existing gutters?

Yes, as long as the gutters are in good condition. Guards can also go on at the same time as new gutters.

What does gutter installation cost?

About $16 a foot for the gutter itself. Downspouts are priced separately. The total depends on the length installed, the size, and the number of corners and downspouts. We measure your home and give you a written price for free.

Are 6-inch gutters better than 5-inch?

Not better, just bigger. A 6-inch gutter moves more water, which matters under large or steep roof planes. On many homes 5-inch is all that's needed.
